after the rain

After five days of rain, I returned to plot 33 to see things a-growing.

Here, a second marigold flower, turnip and beetroot seedlings, and, if you look really closely,

carrot seedlings – finally.

Here’s a potato coming through – from a bag of jersey royals (aka international kidney) that I bought at Sainsbury’s

and spinach (some transplanted, some sown there) and beetroot.

Then, if you look really closely, these teeny weeny red shoots are from the green manure, buckwheat, that I sowed just before the rains. I’ve sown this in an attempt to improve the existing soil enough for grass paths.
