two imposters

No, that’s not right, there was no triumph only a disaster and a near disaster.

A few days ago, I started off a sourdough starter and then made a loaf from it. The crust looked nice, but was rubbery, the crumb was good with lots of bounce, but was rather dense, and two of the three of us were reminded that we don’t much care for the taste of sourdough!

The true disaster was my attempt to take up the marmalade mantle from my father-in-law. I tried to follow the sainted Delia’s instructions, burned it and, here’s where disaster struck, stirred the burned bits in. ARGH! The lump saw nothing wrong with it and asked that I potted it up — thus: eight jars of burnt marmalade.

I’ve spent nearly a week, on and off, scrubbing the pan ready to try again.
