dyeing with food dye

I’ve read about dyeing wool with food dye, so decided to give it a go.
First, I soaked yesterday’s knitted piece in diluted white vinegar (an acid to make the dye stick), then scrunched it up in a bowl.

Next, I splattered, dripped and dribbled food-dye over it, then nuked it twice for 5 minutes allowing it to cool inbetween.

It’s come out nicely mottled, much paler than I expected.
